Remembrance and Connection
Candles- The lighting of candles is a ritual that has been used for time immemorial to symbolise all aspects of life such as Love, hope, faith, renewal and remembrance. A unity candle ceremony for a wedding symbolises the joining of two people and their families. Representatives from each family are invited to light a candle. For a funeral, a candle can be lit by the chief mourner for a quiet moment of reflection during the ceremony and to represent the light that continues to shine even after the physical body is gone.
Quaich ceremony - A Scottish wedding tradition where the couple each drink from a two handled loving cup. It is a way to celebrate their union and commitment to one another.
Hand-fasting - From ancient Celtic and Norse wedding tradition, this involves a couple having their hands bound together with ribbon or cloth to represent their commitment to each other. This is where the saying "Tying the knot" originated.
Ring Warming - A wedding tradition where guests pass the couples rings around offering well wishes for the marriage. The rings are said to be warmed by the love of the couples loved ones by the time the rings are exchanged.
Time Capsule/ Memory Box- For a baby naming ceremony you can ask guests to bring something to add to it such as a newspaper article from the day your child was born, family photos or messages or gifts to be opened when the reach a significant age.
Nature based Rituals
Oath stone Ceremony - A wedding ritual where the couple take their vows whilst holding a stone that is significant to them. A symbolic ritual rooted in Celtic tradition, connecting you to the land and your ancestors.
Unity Sand Ceremony - A wedding ritual where the couple each pour sand into a single vessel. The combined sand represents the bringing together of hopes, dreams and values.
