About Iona Ceremonies

I am a married mum of two girls, living in West Lothian. My family originally descend from the Island of Iona and I was born and brought up in the Western Highlands of Scotland surrounded by beautiful glens, lochs and mountains. I love nature and being outdoors and enjoy walking and hiking whenever I get the chance.

I am a trained musician and I teach piano from my own home. Music is a great love of mine, and it was because of it, that i discovered I wanted to be a celebrant.

As a child, although not particularly religious, I was fascinated with the rituals of weddings, funerals and church ceremonies and it wasn't unusual for me on a Sunday to attend both neighbouring churches in one day. I quite fancied the idea of being a minister, being there for all the important landmarks in peoples lives seemed like such a privileged pursuit, but I wrote it off as an impossibility.

Fast forward after a busy life as a working musician and bringing up a family, I was asked to play piano at a wedding and it was there i witnessed my first celebrant led ceremony. It was a light bulb moment for me, this was something I could do after all.

My journey to becoming a celebrant was a very organic experience, it wasn't planned or expected at all. I have always been a good listener and have strong creative writing skills with a great love of people and stories, so it seemed more like a calling to me.

In my life i have been through deep grief, experienced great joy, faced my own mortality, suffered hardship and heartache, I have watched people slowly diminish and suffered having someone ripped away from my world. I believe all of these life experiences have shaped and moulded my character and have facilitated my role as a celebrant.
